Hardware and Software

Hardware and software are the components of a computer system. They are related to each other. In the absence of on the other cannot function. Both are co-related to each other. 

Hardware

Hardware is the physical components of a computer system. They are non abstract things. They can be touched and felt. They make software useable. Monitor, keyboard, mouse, scanner, printer, OCR, disk drives etc are some of the examples of hardware.

As electric pulse passes through the components of Hardware they begin to function under the instruction of the program.

Software:

Software are the collection of set of instructions written by the programmer. They are computer programs which enables hardware to function. We can categorize software as:-

1)     System Software:-

They are used to design manage and operate the computer programs. They are further categorized as:-

i)                    Operating System Software

They are the set of instructions written by the programmer . They have control over various parts connected to the computer system and the overall activities within the system. They supervise all the operations within the system.

ii)                   Utility Software:

They are also known as doctor programs. The tasks such as data transfer, search, recovery, management are done by this software.

iii)                 Translating software:

They translate High Level Language to Low Level Language and Low Level Language to Machine code which are understood by the computer system. There are different types of Translating software like Compiler, Interpreter and Assembler.

2)     Application Software

They are the software prepared for specific purpose.  They are complete self content program.
